The Joys & Mostly Woes of Preschool Hunting

After taking an intentional blog break for a little more than a week, I'm back to announce (as promised) that my girl is finally attending school =)

I've actually started preparing for it a long time ago by sewing her name on her school bag and labelling her water bottle (oh yes, I'm that OCD *laughs*).

Proud of my handiwork =)
As you know we were hunting for a pre-school but it's such a hellish process since we live in a neighbourhood where pre-schools either cost the same as tuition fees at a local university (totally not kidding) or were so full we're still on the waiting list despite her being on the list since she was about 1 year old.

My mum-in-law was so frustrated, she told me (in Mandarin) "eh, next time get your 2nd baby on the list when he's in your stomach lah."

And to think that I used to stick my nose up at parents who started putting their kids on the waiting list even before they were born *pffftt*

Anyway, a child-care centre in the area finally got back to me with good news and bad news.

Good news = they have 2 spaces available & I'm first on the list so they're offering it to me.
Bad news = she can only start in Jan 2013. Yes, that's 8 months later! -__-"

Then they asked me if I would like to save the spot and what did you think I said? YES of course!

But since she only enrols next year, I had to look for a program that could occupy her for these few months. I finally settled with Growing Up Gifted at United Square.

Growing Up Gifted

I chose this school because the curriculum seems alright even though the cost wasn't cheap! *sigh*

1st day at school

But we're going to just suck it up since it's just a few months. The many classrooms, in-house library, music room and toilets also sweetened it just a little.

Baby girl was excited.

My baby girl is all grown up *sobs*

Although she was more excited to explore the place than she was carrying her own bag (she only carried it to pose for pictures). What a princess.. -__-

It's hard to say how she would take to her new school. I guess only time will tell if it's beneficial or not. Will definitely get back to you on that at the end of the year =)
