Sofzsleep Like a Baby

We have a playpen rather than a cot because more than 4 years ago when I was pregnant with my girl and deciding which to get, I decided that a playpen would take up less space and could easily be folded and stored for baby number 2.

The late father-in-law had a different opinion then and often grumbled at me for not buying a proper cot with a proper mattress. He often asked me to give it away when he noticed that my girl had refused to sleep in it (it really irked him a lot). I refused to give it away as the whole point of buying this playpen was to keep it for my second baby.

Of course I didn't know then that there were cots that could be converted into a toddler bed for my girl so on hindsight, it may have been a good decision to listen to my father-in-law after all.

So anyway, when Baby Boy was born, we put him in the suspended bassinet of the playpen as we did with my girl.

However, unlike his sister, Baby Boy had no trouble sleeping in the playpen. That is, until he outgrew the suspended bassinet and I had to place an adult mattress and other things (e.g. extra packets of diapers) to make a makeshift "bed" for baby boy that is not too high (otherwise he might fall out of the bed) and not too low (otherwise I might break my back trying to get him in and out of the cot).

Baby Boy hated sleeping on this makeshift bed! I would put him on it while he was fast asleep and he would wake up soon after, crying to be taken out. We ended up letting him sleep on our queen-size bed instead, which sometimes irritates the hubby.

I was very happy when Sofzsleep offered to provide us with their playpen mattress for review. Finally, my baby can have a proper mattress to sleep on!

Key Features of a Sofzsleep Mattress:

1) Support for the Body
All of Sofzsleep products are made from latex, which offers great support for the body and blood circulation.

2) Keeps the Baby Cool
The open cell structure of latex also ensures ventilation such that your baby is kept cool. In a hot and humid country like Singapore, it important that the mattress is made of a cooling matterial so that the baby is not overheated. A hot baby is a cranky baby!

3) Durable
Made of premium quality latex, the mattress can last for many years without the risk of breaking down or losing its shape.

Quality certification of a Sofzsleep latex mattress

All of Sofzsleep mattresses comply with the European Eco-label Standard for latex mattresses, which determines that a mattress core should not lose more than 20mm height and not more than 20% of its firmness.

4) Hygenic
The latex is thoroughly washed, processed and tested to comply with the OekoTex Standard 100 so as to ensure cleanliness.

5) Resistant to Dust Mite & Microorganisms
The natural antibiotic properties of latex and its open cell structure reduces the growth of dust mites and other microorganisms such as mold and fungus. This is great for children, like my boy, who may be sensitive or allergic to microorganisms.

6) Customisable
Each Sofzsleep mattress is made individually so you can design it in any way you want to fit your bed frame. You can even design a hexagonal-shaped mattress if you've got a hexagonal-shaped bed!

7) Removable Cover
I personally like that the cover is water resistant and can be removed and washed. This reduces the need for an additional mattress cover to protect the mattress.

Baby Boy has been sleeping on his new mattress for a few weeks now and has been enjoying it. I definitely notice a difference in his sleep pattern (he can sleep for longer before waking up for milk).
