Staycation at Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy

A few weeks ago we were invited for a short staycation at Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy located at the heart of Katong at Marine Parade. I was looking forward to having a relaxing weekend =)

Enjoying the check-in counter! =)

We got our room keys pretty quickly and headed to our room!

Left: Since it's only one night, a small luggage will suffice for all of us;
Right: Figuring out how to open the door.
Our room! =)
A baby cot was already prepared for us as we requested
Left: My boy did not appreciate being trapped in the cot!;
Right: Drinks and snacks area.
Wardrobe, safe, ironing board, bedroom slippers and bathrobes
(a pity that there were no kids size slippers or bathrobes though)
The spacious toilet and toiletries
The bathtub
Big king size bed
Hey what's behind this door?
Left: It's the connecting door to the next room!
(thanks to the hotel for arranging connecting rooms for us);
Right: The very comfortable lounge sofa for relaxing.
The room next door with mirror-image configuration
We can see East Coast Park and the sea from our window
For the shopaholics, Parkway Parade is just opposite!

Because this hotel is located at Katong, they pride themselves on retaining the unique Peranakan heritage! They kindly sent us some souvenirs to take home. Love them! =)

A replica of the Peranakan spoon
A Peranakan tile magnet that is now on my fridge caption
Complimentary tea served in traditional tea pot and cups (so cool!) and little snacks to go with it

Our family really enjoys swimming so it was off to the Swimming Pool.

At the swimming pool
With their grandma
My girl swimming with daddy
Getting splashed by the fountain!

The pool was relatively smaller than what we were used to but the kids still had fun. They were completely exhausted after that!

The location of Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy in Katong meant that we were just minutes away from our favourite restaurants. We decided to eat at G7 Sinma Live Bull Frog Porridge at Geylang, our family's favourite restaurant for frog porridge!

Hungry boy couldn't wait to start eating
The famous frog porridge in the background and vegetables and hor fun in the fore ground

After dinner, we headed back to the hotel where we relaxed for the rest of the night.

Grand Mercure Roxy at night
My kids enjoying themselves in the huge king size bed
My boy sound asleep in the baby cot

It was nice to have the whole king size bed to ourselves so we slept pretty well (the pillow was nice and firm too). The next morning we went to the Feast @ East the Buffet Restaurant for our breakfast.

Feast @ East The Buffet Restaurant
The counter space is decorated with traditional Peranakan items
The bread section
The spread of food was not a lot (as compared to other hotels that I've stayed at) but reasonable
Clockwise from left: My girl enjoying her favourite yogurt with peaches;
Traditional "rooster" bowls;
Enjoying our breakfast.
The omelette done by the chef. For me it was well done but for the hubby, the cheese did not melt properly.
Not sure whether it's because the chef likes girls *laughs*

Although the breakfast spread was not a lot, the food was still ok. It had all the usual food that we would see in most hotel breakfast buffet.

We were given vouchers for welcome drinks on the day of check-in but we forgot to use it so we headed to Breez Bistro and Bar for some drinks just before we checked out.

Left: Complimentary drinks for each of us;
Right: Breez Bistro and Bar overlooks the swimming pool.
Breez is empty now because it is nearing lunch time
(most people are at the restaurant)
Our drinks by the pool! A nice way to chill and relax =)

All in all, I was grateful for a chance to escape the realities of life and rejuvenate with my family.

If you're planning a trip to Singapore, you can consider staying at Grand Mercure Roxy because it is relatively near to the airport, 10-15 minutes walk to East Coast Park, 5 minutes walk to Parkway Parade and just minutes away from some of Singapore's most famous restaurants (our favourite chilli crab at Kim's Place is just 10 minutes away!).

For those of you who are not able to travel out of Singapore for various reasons, consider booking a staycation for a break in your regular life. You deserve a break (I know I did)!

The best feature of Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy is its location in the area where Peranakan roots are located. The restaurant Feast @ East has a very good reputation for serving authentic Peranakan food.
I love the big pool at the hotel
I think the best feature is its location. In the middle of such a happening area.
The pool! I wanna celebrate my hubby's birthday there. Just the 2 of us, lazing in the pool.

I love the connecting rooms .. it's so hard to get connecting rooms whenever we travel (we are a family of 6) .. the kiddos are all grown up and it's no longer possible to get them to squeeze into one room with us .. having a connecting rooms make it so much easier for us to be near to each other and yet have more than enough space for ourselves ..
Love the location of the hotel, and the excellent amenities!
I like the connected rooms because it is great for big families that cannot fit into one single room, but still want to be connected and close to each other.

I love the Peranakan amenities in the room and is at the heart of Katong where all the fun and fond memories I have when my parents love to bring me to shop and eat there. Now having my own kids I hope to be able to spend my staycation there to have more time to explore further and enjoy the night scene in the room.

The best feature of the Grand Mercury Roxy is its location...near the airport which tourists always prefer, near a Mall which an A+ factor for me and most importantly it's near famous restaurants. 😉😉😉

The best feature is the proximity to makan places and Parkway Parade. Best of all it is near the airport and to my office as well. I can help guests from overseas to book their rooms here and travel with ease to and fro my office, amd at the dame time bring them to great makan joints nearby. One stone kills two birds

I like the unique Peranakan heritage feature the most because it is what making this hotel special and make us feel historic. I want to win this awesome staycation for my anniversary with my love. A great "getaway" from all the stressful , fast-pacing society. We love to have a romantic moments together & experience the beautifully designed room and facilities.

I love the connecting door to the next room where my family members in both rooms can conveniently come and go without having to step out of our rooms and ring the door bell.
