Breakfast was served complimentary at Loch Ness Inn's restaurant. Breakfast in Scotland is not the typical buffet style that we're used to. However, what they lack in quantity, they make up for in quality! The food was so awesome! 😋
My girl is so excited that we finally got to eat! |
We got to choose one main course each from the menu. I chose the Eggs Benedict (soooo tasty!!) while the girl had the Stack of Scottish Pancakes (looks good right?!) |
Hubby chose Full Highland while the mum chose French Toast |
One of the best breakfast ever!!! =P
After breakfast, we checked out of the hotel, loaded up the car and drove for 5 minutes to the famous Urquhart Castle.
Urquhart Castle (Address: Drumnadrochit, Inverness IV63 6XJ, UK; Opening Hours: 9.30am - 6pm) |
You gotta pay the entrance fee of £9 per adult in order to explore the castle grounds. We decided that we didn't like the castle enough to pay 😂
Group selfie because we didn't want to pay *laughs* |
Instead, we decided to stop at the side of the road and take some photos with the famous Loch Ness.
Beautiful Loch Ness, made famous by the infamous Loch Ness Monster, also fondly referred to as Nessie. |
You may also consider visiting Loch Ness Centre & Exhibition, and shop at The Nessie Shop for souvenirs.
For us, it was onward to Isle of Skye, located at the Northwest coast of Scotland. Along the way, we passed the usual magnificent scenery that we really can't get enough of! This is best part of a road trip in Scotland!
One of the many lochs (which means lake) and mountains that we passed, but I can't remember where! |
We have not taken a couple shot in a long time! |
We had driven for about 1 hour 15 minutes when we passed by Eilean Donna Castle. It looked so beautiful that we just had to stop to check it out!

View from the car park |
Eilean means island and it refers to the island that the castle sits on. Although it looks like you could walk straight there on land, the brown stuff behind us is actually mush and you'd still need a kayak to travel across.
Lucky for us the cheapo folks, exploring the castle grounds is FREE (you only need to pay if you're entering the castle). It's a lot better than Urquhart Castle in my opinion *laughs*

There is a reason why it's the most photographed castle in Scotland (and maybe even UK)! It's so beautiful! Definitely worth a stop to take pictures!
We decided to stop for a short meal at the Eilean Donan Castle Coffee Shop before we continued on our journey as we were really hungry.
Had simple mac and cheese (the girl's favourite!) and hot chocolate (my favourite!) |
When we were ready, we continued our drive to Isle of Skye.
More mountainous roads at high speeds! Requires a lot of driving experience, which thankfully the hubby has a lot of! |
As Isle of Skye is a huge island, the only way to get there is either by ferry or the Skye Bridge. If you did not book a ferry, do make sure your GPS is showing you the route that uses the Skye Bridge. Sometimes they will show you the route that leads you to the ferry terminal because it is faster, but it can be a huge detour if you are not taking the ferry.
After travelling for about 1 hour from Eilean Donan Castle, we arrived at Portree. We checked into our accommodation at Portree, The Bosville Hotel.
The Bosville Hotel (Address: 9-11 Bosville Terrace, Portree, Isle of Skye IV51 9DG, United Kingdom) |
The hotel does not have car park lots reserved for guests so you'd just have to park at the lots in front of or surrounding the hotel. I suggest waiting patiently for one of the lots in front of the hotel. It's a lot more convenient for loading and unloading of luggage.
We booked the Family of 4 room via the hotel's website. It cost us £150 per room per night and comes with breakfast for 4 (more on that in my next post, link found at the bottom of this post).
The sofas in the lower deck transforms into beds for the mum and girl |
View of the lower deck from the upper deck |
Spacious double bed |
A table for hanging out and drinking (Hubby loved the table) |
There's a bath tub in the bathroom! |
Pretty spacious bathroom with a heated rack and adequate toiletries |
We headed out to explore the neighbourhood when we were done. The Bosville Hotel actually overlooks the famous Portree Harbour that Portree is so well-known for!
The colourful houses along Portree Harbour |
So picturesque isn't it? |
There are quite a lot of shops and even a small supermarket near The Bosville Hotel so it's really convenient for us to get our daily groceries |
View of Loch Portree from viewing deck near Portree Harbour. Very beautiful! |
We decided to have dinner at The Bosville Hotel's restaurant, Dulse & Brose. The restaurant had a Michelin 2017 decal at the door so we figured it should be good. And man, it was good!!
Dinner at Dulse & Brose |
Bread to start and salmon for the mum |
Our picks from their menu |
I'm so addicted to their mussels! Had to order this dish to satisfy my daily mussel craving!!!! 🤣 |
Seriously, Scottish food has not disappointed us! We're so impressed! We might consider coming back just for the food! 😁
The best thing about eating at the restaurant within the hotel is that we just had to stroll back to our room once we're done.
Our snacks we got from the nearby supermarket. Mackie's of Scotland is soooo good! |
Can't wait to explore more of Isle of Skye tomorrow!
