Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum

Ever since we moved to the Clementi area, I've been meaning to visit the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, just a stone's throw away from our home.

This museum started out as a tiny museum in the NUS Science Faculty, and then was later relocated to its current bigger facility. It was and still is free for NUS students and staff. I used to spend a whole day at the original tiny museum during my undergraduate care-free days, just staring at each exhibit in detail. I wonder how the museum looks like now? 

We finally paid the museum a visit when we were given free adult tickets by the bro-in-law (we paid for the kids tickets)! 😊

The museum is not very big but it was quite interactive.

The most unique thing about LKCNHM is the dinosaur zone! It is probably the closest thing we have in Singapore to the dinosaur exhibits we've seen in Melbourne Museum and in London's Natural History Museum. 

I'm definitely no dinosaur expert so I can't tell you what this is. It was fun taking photos with it though 😊

Finally brought the kids to Singapore's very own #leekongchiannaturalhistorymuseum 😊 it's very much smaller than London Natural History Museum and Melbourne Museum but still nice if you cant fly so far to visit the aforementioned museums. They charge admission fees (free for NUS students/staff) but I don't mind to support the museum/NUS 😊 . I remember the days when I used to spend hours in this museum in my undergrad years when it was located in the Science Faculty in NUS. Dinosaur bones were not the only bones in the museum. The museum also features the full skeleton of a female sperm whale, who was found dead off Jurong Island.

Various exhibits that really reminded me of London's Natural History Museum

Make sure you spend some time learning about the native animals that live in Singapore! You would be pleasantly surprised to find out just how many species of animals live in an urban city like ours! Hopefully we can continue to preserve their habitats so that they can continue to thrive in Singapore! 

If you have some time, do also pop by the NUS Museum located next door.

As both the hubby and I graduated from NUS, it is our wish that at least one, if not all, of our children will graduate from NUS too! May our wishes come true! 😄
