Road Trip Day 4: Genting SkyWorlds Hotel & SkyAvenue

It was time to leave Ipoh (time flies!) and we had a simple breakfast in our apartment before returning our keys and checking out.

Before we left Ipoh, we stopped by Restoran Tuck Kee (address: 1-3, Jalan King, Jalan Pasir Pinji, 31650 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia) to buy their famous roast pork and duck. Make sure that you don't confuse this restaurant with Restoran Tuck Kee of the same name located next to our apartment that's famous for moonlight hor fun.

You must really try their roast pork, a favourite of our entire family of foodies! The box my bro-in-law bought was wiped out by his family before we even arrive at our lunch venue!

As usual, we had lunch at Luen Fong Restaurant at Tanjung Tualang before heading to Genting Highlands. We always have lunch here after leaving Ipoh!

We totally missed the fresh prawns and seafood! So yummy! 😋

After a good meal, it was off to Genting Highlands! I haven't been to Genting since I was a teenager! We've been meaning to visit but before we could, the outdoor theme park was closed and we didn't want to visit when renovations were ongoing.

My vague memories of travelling to Genting Highlands were filled with winding roads and steep curves that seemed to go on forever. For some reason, the actual roads looked nothing like what I had remembered, though the roads were still as winding and steep! Genting has indeed changed a lot!

Our accommodation was Genting SkyWorlds Hotel because it was new and frankly we didn't have the luxury of choice if we wanted to stay at the summit (many hotels were either full, not opened for booking or too expensive).

What greeted us at the lobby was a whimsical land of colour and fun!

There was a small slide for the little kids, who played while I checked in at the Self Check-in Kiosk with the help of the staff.

While the wives were checking in, the husbands were parking our cars. However, they later told us they couldn't find a lot near our hotel and had to park really far away. The walk back to the hotel took about 20-30 minutes!

When they arrived, we headed to our rooms. We had booked 2 Sixers Rooms at S$91 per room per night (without breakfast) via Agoda. We waited for the best possible price before booking and I gotta say, it's really value for money!

The bathroom was relatively spacious, with separate shower and toilet, double sinks and adequate amenities.

The biggest problem with the bathroom was the lack of a main door. This meant that you had to change inside the shower area, which was wet and unable to store your clothes so you had to reach out to grab them from the hooks outside the shower area. Super inconvenient!

The room description states that it can accommodate up to 6 adults but I think it's more like 4 adults and 2 skinny adults/children because the loft bed can only hold the weight of up to 80kg. The Eldest Girl slept on the loft with the Littlest because the latter insisted on sleeping with her sister 😃 The Littlest didn't have any issues sleeping on the loft despite my initial worry that she might fall off.

As the room was very small, most of the storage, including the safe, is located under the bed. Very creative!

The ample round hooks on the wall also made up for the lack of closet in this small space. The 2D design was simple but memorable and cute.

Do note that there's no air-conditioning in the rooms. There is only a ceiling fan, which was not strong enough to cool the room if you do not open the window. Thankful, my family is used to sleeping with noise (the sounds from the theme park and traffic below can be quite loud) so opening the window was not an issue for us.

Our room faced the entrance of the outdoor theme park but we couldn't see much of it due to the thick fog that surrounded the summit for the 3 days that we were there. After we had sufficiently unpacked, we headed out to explore.

It was only a 3-minute walk from our hotel to the entrance of the Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park. It was one of the reasons why we chose to stay at this hotel.

All the malls are linked hence it was easy for us to walk to Sky Avenue Shopping Mall. However, it takes us about 20 minutes to walk from our hotel to the indoor theme park, which is something to consider if you prefer to stay nearer to the malls.

We spotted the SkySymphony in the heart of the mall, which was a light and sound show that cleverly makes use of the 1001 suspended light balls to enhance the storytelling on the big screen. It showcases a different story each time we walked by! I really love how creative they were! 🤩

The Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park is a pay-per-use park where you only pay for the rides that you want.

The family preferred to play at Big Top Video Games Park, located at Level 2 of the Skytropolis theme park.

The older kids loved it but there was nothing much for my Littlest Girl. If you've got preschool kids, I would suggest to visit the indoor theme park or arcades (near Ripley's Believe It or Not) instead.

We had dinner at Tai'Bae located on Level 1.
