Dubai Day 3: Shangri-La Dubai Horizon Club

We were woken up in the middle of the night from the strong winds howling and pounding onto our hotel building! The weather forecast the day before had predicted rain but the intensity still took us by surprise. The building started shaking slightly and I said a prayer for all those out at sea or in the air in this stormy weather.

The noise was so loud that we couldn't sleep until nearing dawn when the wind finally subsided.

Exhausted, we headed to the Mezzanine level for breakfast. It was larger than Level 12 (where we had breakfast the day before) and had an egg station!

I preferred the variety of food at the Mezzanine floor 😋

We decided to check out earlier at 10am so that we can leave our luggage with the concierge and head to Museum of the Future. It was only a 10-minute walk down the road from our hotel. We had to brace the rain and wind, which was so strong that our umbrellas were pretty much useless... 😵‍💫😥

I was very excited to visit the Museum of the Future because the building was so cool and like nothing I've ever seen before. Unfortunately, I had not pre-booked the tickets before our trip and all the tickets were sold out! We were super disappointed! 😞

We had no choice but to enjoy the futuristic-looking lobby. The first thing that caught our eyes was a metal fish seemingly 'swimming' freely in the air without any harness! It was super cool!

We also met a robotic dog that interacted with guests just like a real dog!

We had little choice but to brace the rain and wind (again!) back to our hotel.

We collected our luggage from Gevora Hotel and took a taxi to Shangri-La Dubai. We initially considered walking for 10 minutes to Shangri-La, just down the road from Gevora Hotel, but decided against it due to the rain. Despite the proximity, the journey by taxi took about 15 minutes (cost AED18) because it had to go around the Sheikh Zayed Road expressway and pass Dubai Mall.

We intentionally chose to stay at Shangri-La to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary as we were both big fans of the hotel chain! 🥳 We loved our previous Horizon Club experience in Shangri-La Singapore and were very sure that Shangri-La Dubai would not disappoint! 😊

Since we had booked a Horizon Club room, we were invited to check in at the Horizon Club Lounge at Level 41.

We were offered complimentary coffee, tea and cookies while we waited for the staff to process our check-in. The staff also brought a cup of hot chocolate for the Littlest!

However, our room was not yet ready so we decided to explore the area while waiting.

We walked to nearby Shaheen Supermarket and bought snacks and souvenirs. We had a clear view of Burj Khalifa from the entrance of the supermarket.

The Hubby was feeling hungry so we walked down the street to Berutus for some Mediterranean food.

Food was very good, so good that the Hubby bought takeout from the same restaurant the next day 😄

After our meal, the hotel informed us that our room was ready! We had booked the Horizon Premier Room at $420 per room per night, but Shangri-la kindly upgraded us to a 1-Bedroom Suite!

Our suite was very large, which included a powder room at the entrance.

When we walked in, it felt like we had walked into an apartment! There was a full-sized living room and dining table!

We loved the amenities, such as the wireless charging stand and Nespresso machine.

The best thing about our room imo was the luxurious bathroom with a full set of amenities, full-sized bathtub and an unobstructed view of the Burj Khalifa from the bathtub! 😍

The hotel also thoughtfully provided colour pencils and colouring sheets to entertain the Littlest.

All Horizon rooms include:

  • Horizon lounge access (with complimentary free flow coffee, tea and soft drinks)
  • Horizon breakfast (6.30am - 10.30am)
  • Afternoon tea (2pm - 4pm)
  • Happy hour (5.30pm - 7.30pm)
  • Access to Horizon Club pool (6am - 10pm)

We had just enough time for Afternoon Tea at the Horizon lounge. We enjoyed the tea and snacks, though the selection was not as good as Happy Hour.

The Littlest couldn't wait to check out the main pool!

Love the view of Burj Khalifa from the pool! 😁

We also checked out the Horizon Club Pool at Level 42, which was indoor unlike the main pool.

I spent quite a lot of time admiring the view from the pool 😍 I also enjoyed the hot jacuzzi!

We returned to our room to find a complimentary chocolate cake and fruit platter given by the hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary! 😍

We were also pleasantly surprised to find rose petals decorated on our bed!

We headed to the Horizon Club Lounge to enjoy Happy Hour. Variety of food and alcohol was better than Afternoon Tea!

We definitely made the right choice to stay with Shangri-La for our anniversary! Thanks to all the staff for your warm hospitality! We had a great sleep that night! 🩷

 Happy 15th Anniversary to Us!!!
