Dubai Day 4: Dubai Mall & Burj Khalifa

We woke up early for breakfast at the Horizon Club Lounge (more details in my previous post).

We can choose our food from the buffet counter and order ala carte from the staff. The staff can even customise your order if you've special dietary requirements. We ordered pancakes for the Littlest Girl and eggs benedict for me πŸ˜‹

Food was great! So yummy! πŸ’―

After breakfast, we boarded the complimentary shuttle service to Dubai Mall at 10am.

On arrival at Dubai Mall, the driver informed us to return to the same boarding bay if we wanted to take the shuttle back to the hotel.

Dubai Mall was HUGE, so we used our Stokke Jetkids Bedbox for my Littlest to ride instead of the more bulky stroller. It was the best decision because the Littlest didn't have to walk the whole way!

We came across the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, where you can see a part of the large aquarium from the outside!

It was pretty cool but we decided not to visit, since we have visited many aquariums before, including our very own SEA Aquarium in Singapore.

We walked to Burj Khalifa instead as we had gotten tickets for the 12.30pm slot. We were given wrong directions and walked outdoors towards the water fountain pool rather than continue indoors to the ticketing counter.

We soon realised we were walking in the wrong direction and headed back inside the mall and found the entrance.

You can choose to visit Level 125 or 154 but the latter was too expensive so we went with the former. We booked our tickets via Klook, which cost us S$66.35 per adult and S$53.85 per child.

We had to queue to board the lift up to At the Top (i.e., level 125 of Burj Khalifa). The lift was direct and super fast! Within minutes, we found ourselves at Level 125!

The view was spectacular! It's not everyday that you get to see the roofs of skyscrapers!

If you look carefully, you can spot our previous hotel, Gevora Hotel, and our current hotel, Shangri-la Dubai, in the photo below!

There were some interactive screens that helped you to identify the buildings and landmarks that you were looking at.

The interactive screen also showed us how different the land looked just 50 years ago! In such a short time, the UAE has successfully transformed Dubai from barren desert land into the thriving metropolis that it is today! Truly inspirational!

The girl enjoyed jumping on the simulation screens on the floor and taking photos with everything.

The shop at Level 125 also sold souvenirs that were of good quality and affordable. We bought chocolates, magnets and bags.

We enjoyed our visit and recommend it, even though it was very crowded and can feel like a tourist trap! If you prefer a more VIP experience, you can pay for the Level 154 visit or stay at the Armani Hotel located within the Burj Khalifa!

After exiting the Burj Khalifa, we had good Indian food at the Food Court right beside the exit.

After our late lunch, we returned to the boarding bay and took the shuttle back to Shangri-La just in time for Afternoon Tea. We grabbed light bites and proceeded for an afternoon swim.

Eat, swim, eat, repeat! I can really get used to this! πŸ€πŸ˜‰

After swimming, we headed back to the Horizon Club Lounge for Happy Hour.

I got addicted to hummus during this trip and had to eat it everyday! It was so yummy! πŸ˜‹

We hung out in our room while the Littlest took a short nap until evening, after which we caught the shuttle bus again to Dubai Mall to see the Dubai Fountain Show, the world's largest choreographed water fountain! You'd also get to see the Burj Khalifa in the night, with lights flashing throughout the building.

The fountain show itself was underwhelming and shorter than expected. We felt that our own MBS light show was better! Thankfully we did not have to pay for the show!

We headed to Waitrose to load up on groceries in preparation for our stay at The Palm (which I anticipated will be less accessible/convenient).

If you had more time, you can check out these other attractions in Dubai Mall:

  • The Human Waterfall
  • Dubai Ice Rink
  • KidZania Dubai
  • PlayDXB (VR park)
